2nd Annual Badger Cup |
August 2, 2008
The Bull Golf Course
1 Long Drive, Sheboygan Falls, WI - 920-467-1500
Be at the course at 10:00am. Shot gun start at 11:00am.
Let’s bring the trophy home!
Participate in a fun, 2-person team competition, along with other teams from our chapter to battle for the coveted “Badger Cup Trophy” and bragging rights for the next year.
Don't miss out on a great way to play a fantastic golf course with a teammate in a fun format. Enjoy the day of golf while meeting and mingling with members of the other Wisconsin chapters.
We will use each team member's handicap to create a 2 person team handicap. You and your teammate will then play against another team from one of the other Wisconsin Chapters. We will be using a combination format (much like a Solheim or Ryder cup competition) that should provide both fun and challenge.
Holes 1 thru 6: Best Ball
Holes 7 thru 12: Scramble
Holes 13 thru 18: Alternate Shot
If you would like to play but do not have a partner, please contact Cheryl Wichman at Cheryl.Wichman@HRH.com.

Question: What exercises can I do to help manage and/or prevent low back pain when golfing?
Answer:
Two major swing faults that contribute to low back pain are S-Posture, which is excessive arch in your back, and the reverse spine angle, which is when your spine angles toward instead of away from the target. Here are some quick warm-ups to help you on the course:.
1. Toe-Touch Series: From a standing position with feet together, bend forward from your hip sockets and try to touch your toes. Hold 3 seconds and repeat 8 times.
2. Pelvic Tilt: Get into a 5-iron posture. Hold club in front of you with grip end down on ground. Arch then flatten your back as much as possible (in comfortable and pain-free range of motion). Arch again then come to the neutral, or middle, position. Hold 3 seconds and repeat 8 times.
3. Hip Flexor Stretch: From standing, place your right foot flat on top of a bench. Lean into right leg and tuck pelvis underneath you to feel a stretch in your left leg. Hold 15 seconds; repeat 2 times, then opposite side.
4. Pubic Bone to Ribcage: In golf posture, lift pubic bone (belt buckle) towards ribcage until in a neutral pelvic and spine position. Hold 3 seconds and repeat 8 times. Maintain the same distance (belt to ribcage) during your back and downswings.
5. Reach Over Fence: Pretend the outside of your trail foot is up against a hip-high fencepost. Turn into your backswing and “reach over the fence” as far as possible without losing your golf posture. Keep your spine angled slightly away from the target at the top of your swing. Repeat 10 times.
Even though these are great ways to warm-up, they can also be a good way to de-stress while you are playing! For a video description, please see go to www.mytpi.com and enter the name of the exercises in the search. As always, if problems persist, please contact your physician and/or work with a golf fitness specialist.

Golf Prolongs Life, Swedish Study Finds
ScienceDaily (June 3, 2008) — Golf can be a good investment for the health, according to a new study from the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet. The death rate for golfers is 40 per cent lower than for other people of the same sex, age and socioeconomic status, which correspond to a 5 year increase in life expectancy. Golfers with a low handicap are the safest.
