Handicap/GLMS Training Session – FREE to Members!
Thursday, May 7th, 2009
6 PM to 7:30 PM

Take advantage of the score/handicap tracking in this great program!
You will learn how to post scores so you can evaluate the parts of your game that need improvement. Just like the pros, you can track your scoring average, putts per round, greens in regulation, and more! As an added benefit, you will establish a USGA handicap.

Your EWGA membership includes this program. Similar services cost $29 per year. Each member will have her own computer at this hands-on learning session. If you have any scorecards from last season that you would like to post to your scoring record, please, feel free to bring them along.

Location of Event: Maplewood Middle School, 1600 Midway Road, Menasha (just south of Highway 441)

RSVP Online By: Monday, May 4th

A League of Your Own
By Lynne L. Finch

Winning has always meant much to me, but winning friends has meant the most.
Babe Didrikson Zaharias

Playing in one of our leagues is a win-win. You win by playing with other women golfers who want you to hit that drive down the middle and cheer (sometimes quite loudly) when you make that long putt. You win by taking time just for you. You win by golfing with friends. That’s what EWGA league play is all about.

So you’re worried about score keeping? Competition? Not to worry. EWGA leagues are designed to encourage you to concentrate on doing your best (and having a few laughs along the way.) The beginner level doesn’t even keep track of scores so you can just keep hitting that ball, each stroke helping you develop your swing.

The other levels do collect scorecards. Still no worries. The handicap and scoring system is so complicated only a computer can figure it out. Luckily we have a score expert in the league who feeds all the data into the software. In the two years I’ve been playing in a league I’ve never been able to figure out if I “won” a round or not. For me each week is a personal challenge to lower my score from the previous week, or if not, to at least feel good about the good shots.

Give yourself the gift of golfing with the girls! Take a moment to check our website for all the details. Leagues start the week of May 18 for 12 weeks of play with no golf the week of July 4th. Join one of our golf leagues. Sign up today to win some new friends.

Babe Didrikson Zaharias (1914-1956) won two gold and one silver medal in the 1932 Olympics at Los Angeles. She played basketball, appeared at major league baseball exhibition games, and finally switched to golf.
